Divine bard fluff is postponed for this breaking news:
Monks don't use Ki.
In fact, Ki may not even be a power source any more.
And samurai? Not even a class anymore.
WHATS GOING ON!?!?
On the plus side, you can use the magic item ritual on your fists. YES. On your fists. I also created a new term: "minor psudo-class" for those feat-only multiclass options that they put into dragon magazine, such as the "bravo" and all of the gladiator weapon feats.
I glanced over the playtest for the monk, it seems interesting, but I require more research...
Also, could this be a hint at new classes in PHB3?
"Does it make sense to group witches, knights, jesters, and friars into one power source?"

Sorry to poop in your corn flakes, but the samurai, like the corsair, the swashbuckler, and many other niche classes are just that - niche classes.
What is a samurai? Its a LN fighter with proficiency in Katana and a moral code. All the other stuff was mostly useless fluff (at least the 3E version). Mechanically, you were almost always better being a fighter/weaponmaster with the samurai schtick as frosting.
This actually goes to the heart of why I was eager to dump 3E, does 80 "core" classes, 900 prestige classes, 4000 feats, and 10,000 spells make it fun? Not really. Too many poorly balanced options lead to exactly one thing: Poorly made game.
As to Ki? Won't miss it. Then again, use it and call it Ki. Nobody will kick down your door and suspend your gaming rights :)
Then again, I sem to recall the RPGBlogger anthology had a ki-based monk, with full progression and paragon paths. If it works, why not?
Indeed, and I personally recommend said Monk, made by Scott over at A Butterfly Dreaming, over Wootsie's monk any day.

True dat. Power sources are just fluff at this point in 4E's lifecycle, so swap out "Psi" for "Ki" and play your monk as the oriental martial arts master you've been dreaming of.
